Happy St. Patricks Day

This day is not all about leprechauns, shamrocks and green beer. This is a day to honor and pray to St. Patrick. He was an influential saint who, 1,500 years ago, brought Christianity to the little country of Ireland. He was born about 385 in the British Isles, was carried off while still very young during a raid on Roman Britain by the Irish and sold as a slave. At the end of six years he contrived to escape to Europe, became a monk and was ordained; he then returned to Ireland to preach the Gospel. During the thirty years that his missionary labors continued he covered the Island with churches and monasteries; in 444 he founded the metropolitan see of Armagh. St. Patrick died in 461. After fifteen centuries he remains for all Irishmen the great bishop whom they venerate as their father in the Faith.

Today here in our house you will smell the cornbeef and cabbage cooking all day in the crockpot!
I am Scotch-Irish and this is a fun holiday for us.

Remembering The View....

Out my bedroom window.....to the front of the house and the snowy street below!
The snow is over.....all melted away! The rains are back.......and tomorrow is Monday! sigh*
It was very enjoyable to have a week off with hubby and ALL the kiddos! The snow was a real change of pace for us!
We did many fun things.
Ice skating, roller skating, bowling and eating many comfort foods! I plan to share some pictures of our adventures over the week to come!
My cold/flu is still lingering and I feel very tired! This dark cool weather has me nappy eyed!
After I eat dinner here in a mintute, I think I will take a hot bath and sip some ginger tea!

Then I think I will head to bed early and watch a old movie...
Maybe Miracle on 34TH Street, yah that sounds good! :)

Getting Ready For A Homemade Christmas!

As part of our homeschooling and our family values, I like to teach my kiddos to make gifts for family and each other.
So far the kids and I have started with beading wooden necklaces.
I bought a large bucket of beads at the local Goodwill for only $2.00 over the summer!

So yesterday the kiddos and I sat around the living room rug like a bunch of hibernating chickmunks stringing beads! (nuts)
We listened to some Christmas songs and talked about our up coming Thanksgiving plans!
{we are all very excited about it}
I will share the plan with you AFTER the Holiday!

He worked so hard for many days and everyone delighted in the gift he gave.
That reward was priceless.....he realized the true JOY of giving.

What are you all making as gifts for Christmas?
Leave me a comment!

A Fun Day In The Kitchen!

We all had a very loving Valentines day! It was filled with fun activities and good food! We sat around the table enjoying the fruits of our labor and took turns telling one thing we loved about each family member! The younger ones faces glowed as there siblings spoke kind words to them! My face was glowing just as much to see the LOVE and hear what each child held dear about their Sib's! Yes,I had a MOM moment!

The whole evening brought such JOY to my heart! I thoroughly had the time of my life taking photo's of the kiddos! It felt like a photo shoot! The girls were dipping strawberries in chocolate and decorating cookies!

Well the kiddos are off school today, the house is a mess and I need to go to the store.
My sister took the 2 oldest boys (14 and 12)yesterday (Sunday) for pizza and a spend the nighter. Today she is taking them for a snowboard lesson! Its their first time...I bet they are having a blast! I can't wait to hear how it went!

Well I better go for now...life is calling! The baby is needing a bath and the laundry is always waiting there like a loyal friend! LOL
Hope you remember to find the JOY in your life today!

Peace and Blessings,

Happy Valentines Day!

We will be in the kitchen cooking and baking today! The girls and I will be making sugar cookies and chocolate covered strawberries for dessert!

For dinner my Hubby and I will be having steak, bake potato and salad! I usually feed the kids homemade pizza or Pappa Murphy's but this year I think I will make chicken nuggets and homemade mac and cheese for them! I am straying from tradition this year..I wonder which of the kiddos will say something first?

In our home Valentines day is a day to celebrate the love of family....not just romantic love! We make the place settings special with the fancy stemware and special drinks. One year I made watermelon Italian sodas! I got the syrup from my local coffee hut! She sold it to me at cost! The red syrup looked very festive in the large clear tulip glasses!

I always line the center of the table with primroses and use my white table linens!
I love being together with all my kiddos and Hubby on Valentines day and creating special family memories and traditions!

It is up to us Mommas to create the mood in our home! We set the tone, the attitude. Mom's are the ones that bring forth the traditions that make our homes special and unique! Your kids will remember what it was that made their house a home, just ask them! You may even be surprised that each child has a different answer, depending on what is important to him or her and their personality!

Traditions can give a child a sense of belonging, something that they can count on!
At Thanksgiving every year my job was to open the cranberries,my sister made the potatoes! We still have those memories! That's what traditions are meant to create!

If you would like to share any of your traditions please do!

I pray all is well with everyone!

Now its off to the kitchen with the girls go get things ready for tonight!

Blessings,
Georgiann

Halloween~A New Tradition~

This Halloween our family will not be going trick-or-treating....we are starting a new family tradition. We will be staying home and making homemade pizzas, eating candy (chocolate bars and all the good stuff I usually jack from the kiddos bags every year) and watching scary movies (just the older bunch). My teenager wants to rent Children of The Corn !!?? I'm not sure if that will be the choice,I have tried to watch it once before and it was to scary for me....I'm a chicken. We will have to see??

The reason for the change?
Well,God put it on my heart last year to do something different for my family, and with my family. I have never been really into Halloween and it is usually very dark, cold, wet and rainy here in the Pacific Northwest. Last Halloween my youngest daughter Olivia was only 3 weeks old and Jackie was 2,Noah was 5 and Nick was 8 and then we had the 2 older boys 10 and 13. It was hard to watch everyone, even with flashlights and going to a small neighborhood of houses.

The real changing moment for me was the speeding (40mph) car load of teens hanging out the windows yelling ect.. the car would have run my children over had they darted out, even one step. My hubby yelled SLOW DOWN at them , the car hit the brakes and I thought we were goners! Were those boys going to put my hubby in his place some how for yelling at them?? I had a major panic attack!!!!
The car then burned rubber, drove erratically through the neighborhood at a high rate of speed. It soon was back to where we where walking...I was heading for our car as quick as I could,my heart racing, pushing a stroller with 4 kiddos hanging onto it. I had to pass by the car with my whole family.
The car then pulled up behind a boy walking alone. Someone jumped out and started calling him GAY and other similar names I care not to mention. I felt sick to my stomach. I was not sure what to do or what would take place next???

I felt like a sitting duck with ALL her ducklings. I asked myself, what am I doing out here, with my whole family on a dark cold night??? Did we really need "their" candy that bad?? My answer was NO !!!!!

So this year will be differnt! A change!
My hubby thinks I over react, and feels the kiddos will miss dressing up. I told him God was with us that night (he is always there,I know, but I felt him more that night)and HE spoke to my heart to do something different. My hubby knows, I can't ignore the Lord's guiding hand with our family. So this year is the start of a new family tradition.

We will snuggle in with the lights off(no answering the door and handing out candy).
We will eat homemade pizzas and eat candy.
We will watch scary movies and be thankful for each other.
We will be warm and safe.
We will have fun!!!

The message I would like to give you all is, never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and do something different.....especially if you know God is putting it on your heart to do so. I will write another post later this season on "Traditions In The Home" so check back.

Peace in Christ,
Georgiann
