Mother's Day Planting and Jackie's Birthday!

My wonderful Hubby and the girls bought me a few plants from the high school horticulture plant sale to add to the garden...
2 tomato plants, a pepper, cilantro and a sunflower.

I bought a bunch of plants last week but have not had the energy to weed....I mean dig out grass covered garden beds to make room for my plants.
I bought broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and a few zucchini.

With only about 3-4 weeks until baby arrives, I have not wanted to stoop over the garden beds.
My back just hurts thinking about that!
I just got over the flu that lasted about a week and struggled to keep my blood sugar stable.

Happy 7th Birthday Jackie!

My sweet girl is 7 today!

We sang and had icecream and cookies last night. Jackie also recieved her presents a day early because Noah has a baseball game tonight so we will be home late!

For dinner tonight Jackie and the kids will have popcorn shrimp and mac and cheese per Jackies request!

Here's a funny story....

Jackie got some new Easter shoes.
I let her get these little 2 inch high heeled sandles (wedge).
I really did not want her to get them.....you know not wanting her to grow up to fast.

Well, Saturday night after Mass she was getting out of the car, with shoes in hand.
She said, mom we can give these shoes to Goodwill or to Olivia because they hurt my feet!

I said, welcome to womanhood and high heels!
We both laughed!
She now does not want to get anymore highheels!

Peace and Love,
Mom

{more pics from the farm}

I was sifting through the pics on my camera and found many more I wanted to share. Spending time at the CSA farm with my kiddos really warms my heart. I try to stop time soak it all in by taking a ton of pictures!

What do you like to take pictures of?
What setting?

I love rain day comforts ,umberellas, and puddles etc.

I love a cute girl in rubberboots and a mudpuddle, don't you????
I didn't take to many pictures did I??? lol

I pray all is well with you all!

Now I'm off to do some cleaning and a possible bathroom redo.
(I might paint my vanity with some paint I have laying around and a few other things!)
I'm trying to get my mind off waiting for my NaPro Dr. to call with my blood work results!
He will call sometime this week!
It has been a long 4 weeks of getting poked almost every other day!

If you have time stop in and say hi,
introduce yourself.....I love to make blog friends!
Become a follower if you'd like!

I go through spurts of posting.....but I'm really feeling bloggy lately!
Its funner when people comment and day hi so come say howdy!

Peace and Blessings,

CSA co-op Farm Fun!

Down in the valley lies a CSA farm. Many of the locals go on their assigned pick up day with canvas bags and woven baskets to gather their share of fruits, veggies and herbs.
You could also opt to buy shares of eggs, bread, salad
(washed and bagged) and flowers.

The season began in March and goes through the end of October.  We just joined from August-October.
Our fee was pro rated and we can make it in 3 payments.

Last Friday it was just Noah and I (hubby joined us as we were getting done)
I ran out of camera space so I only got a few pics. I plan to take more today when we go!

Here is a list of what we got on week # 1!

We bought the sample share......

.75# green beans
3 cucumbers
1# broccoli
1 fennel bulb
5 green onions
1 bundle of greens (kale,Swiss chard or collards)
1 pint of cherry tomatoes (u-pick)
1 pint of raspberries
1 pint of blueberries

We were also allowed to pick fresh herbs!

I got:

cilantro
sorrel
mint
dill

We payed $18.00 for the share.

For $5.00 a week I added a large bag of washed mixed salad greens
For $2.90 a week I added u-pick flowers. (I can get 15 stems)

I can't wait to see what there is waiting for us today down at the farm!
What we get changes from week to week!
I did a good job eating all we had!
I made a real effort to make sure we ate ALL of what we had picked up last week.
The sample share ($18.00) is only 1/3 smaller than the basic share ($29.00)......we did good.
There was plenty for us. My kiddos though there are 6 of them did not eat to much.

Heres to a great weekend and healthy eats!

Georgiann

Getting To Know My Local Farmers {part2} The Cranberry Farm!

After a fun morning at Terry's Berries Organic Farm we were off to a Cranberry Farm over in my neck of the woods! I never even knew there was a Ocean Spray grower out here.
WOW how cool is that?

The berries are floated then picked by machine. Once picked the berries are trucked to Aberdeen a few hours away to be processed into sauce etc.. The machine can't get the berries that are along the irrigation ditches or the sprinkler heads,so my Self Reliant group was notified.
Bruce the farm owner said,we could come pick for a few hours on Saturday.

Here's a look:

Cranberries grow in mushy airy compost in 5 soil from clippings.

Rufus the farmers bloodhound, kept chasing the kids, knocking them over and
trying to do the  humpty dumbty on everyones  leg.......EEEKKK!

Me and my Little's at the Cranberry farm!

~Cranberry Fields~

I hope you have enjoyed taking a look at a cranberry farm that grows for Ocean Spray.
We had a bundle of fun getting to pick {even though Rufus was a bit of a pest at times}.
Now its time to make a batch of cranberry sauce! I only had time to pick about 1 large bowl full,
before we had to leave to get ready for church. (we go to the Saturday Mass and CCD beforehand.)
We had a FULL day~

The herb class I took the other night was fun and informative.
It only cost me $1.00 for the hand out. The class was offered at The Free University in my area.
At the Free University they have all sort of classes from painting, guitar, beading and gardening.
The next class I'm signed up for is a Herbal Tea class!
I bought the Herbal Remedies For Dummies book while I was there. I will share more when I post on the subject!
As for now...my nose is in my new book!
{and a quick stop for a sip of tea and a bite of fair trade chocolate.}

Be sure to stop by tomorrow for my Friday post of

Celebrating The Harvest Meme Starting Monday~

I would like to start a  "Celebrate The Harvest" meme.

I have never done this before so bare with me as I figure out how all this will work!
(I want to have folks join in and some how link up)

So what is Celebrate The Harvest?

It is (or will be) a recipe share. How are you using the veggies, herbs or fruit you grew in your garden?
What creative dishes do you make to use your home grown goodness?

I want others to participate by linking up......I'm not sure how to do this part. I will try to do a Mr. Linky but not sure how. I might have to do it rookie style. (no laughing allowed) lol :)

I will start the first "Celebrate The Harvest" post on Monday Sept.27
Let me know if you will be joining me?

Post Edit note:
It is OK to participate and share recipes of garden harvests of years past. This year was not a good growing year for most of us. All are welcome to participate!

Maybe you usually grow beets and carrots but they did not do good this year (like mine)......share anyways do you add them to stew....roast them?

Peace and Love,
Georgiann

Making Mini-Green Houses~

We all grabbed some cool iced tea and started in......

The other night I hosted a make and take clinic over at my place~

A few folks from the Self Reliant Club came over to make mini-green houses to cover their garden beds! I made 2 of these cute little houses! I plan to use them this winter! My goal is to have a winter garden....! My daughters aka mommas lil' garden helpers were out back helping piece together the cut PVC parts!
(Cut from (3) 10 foot sticks)

Wayne the leader/founder of the Self Reliant group brought the plans and materials.
The cost was $15.00 for each one we built!
We cut and pieced every thing together!
After we were through with construction, I severed up some tofu, garlic, cilantro dip with wheat thins and some homemade tomato basil bisque!

Rhonda brought her little dog.....it was nice to have a dog in the yard again! We miss our dog,Benson!
My son Jacob followed Rhonda's dog all around the yard......boy wants a dog again!

(the dog is part wiener dog and something else)

I think we will wait a year! That's the plan anyways! lol
Hubby wants a Beagle again....I want a border collie (black and white)!

Tomorrow I will post the results of my blood test.....so stay tuned!

Peace and Love~
